BBRC is a Place Based Impact Investor. Put simply, they invest in businesses that benefit society and the environment throughout the South West. Pretty amazing, right? Over the past couple of years at DeskLodge, they’ve grown from two to 10 people. We discover how the pandemic impacted them, and what their future plans look like.
What does BBRC do?
BBRC is a Place Based Impact Investor, this means that we invest in businesses and projects that have a positive social and environmental impact in the South West. Examples of our work can be found in our impact report: https://bab-rc.uk/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/BBRC-2022-Impact-Report-FINAL.pdf . Going forward we will be particularly focussed on how to use investment to accelerate the regions journey to net zero as well as providing housing to refugees and key-workers.
What sort of growth have you had here at DeskLodge?
We’ve been in Desklodge a few years now, and have grown from a team of 2 to a team of 10. This has been against the context of a changing world, that recognises that business and investment has a key part to play in addressing some of our big challenges.
How did the pandemic affect your work?
Like many, we found the pandemic a challenge, but were able to adapt to remote working fairly quickly. The main thing that we missed was human company and once things eased, we were quick to get back to the office.
What are your plans for 2023?
We are seeking to build and launch new funds focussed on net zero and key worker housing. Other than that, we will continue to deliver on our existing work.
What’s been the best thing about working from DeskLodge?
For a small organisation, it is always nice to enter a warm, welcoming space where there is a ‘buzz’. In particular, the team at Deskldoge are always friendly, welcoming and positive which is great.
