With two new DeskLodges currently in the works, we thought you should meet some of the team who are making it happen. Our builders have been working behind the scenes updating different zones in DeskLodge House and assembling our new locations in Reading and Bristol. We asked them a few probing questions so you can find out a bit about them and how the magic happens!
Tom:
Describe DeskLodge in 3 words
Creative, unique, authentic
What has been the most challenging project you’ve worked on for DeskLodge and why?
Every project brings new challenges and we’re always wanting to one up the last one. I would say designing and building the giant fireplace for Beacon Tower in Bristol, because our production design has moved to making our sets adaptable and easy to move and change.
How do you like to spend your free time?
I’m a big gamer and like watching series like Game of Thrones or anything Star Wars! When I’m not being a nerd I’ll be in the gym or up a mountain.
What is your favourite DeskLodge zone?
I love the Hobbit Hole at DeskLodge House, but after completing the two team booths at Sovereign House and with the Tavern almost done, it’s like you’re in another world!
Mark:
Describe DeskLodge in 3 words
Creative, Compelling, Convival
What has been the most challenging project you’ve worked on for DeskLodge and why?
For me, it was painting the crocodile head that sits above a team booth in Sovereign House. I wanted it to look as real as possible with all the scales and skin. Quite proud of it!
How do you like to spend your free time?
I love spending time with my kids, playing guitar, reading (mostly history) and of course drawing!
What is your favourite DeskLodge zone?
For me, the whole new Reading site is my favourite. It’s my first really and I think we all achieved it working together and bouncing ideas off each other.
Paul:
Describe Desklodge in 3 Words?
Fun, quirky, unique.
How do you like to spend your free time?
Tinkering with most things mechanical. Restoring our family home. Motorcycling. Finding myself scouring the nations charity and antique shops looking for unusual items for Desklodge. Oh, and spending time with my family.
What has been the most challenging project you’ve worked on for DeskLodge and why?
The current Desklodge is always the hardest to work on. Ideas for themes and the practicality of designing, building, and installing the finished product come with their own challenges. Fortunately, I have a great team to work with and a fantastic client that gives us the opportunity to create and build outside the box. Thank you, Guys & Tom B.
What is your favourite Desklodge zone?
The Saloon DLH, Bristol. Although many of Desklodge areas make me smile, the Saloon is my favourite. The space had no windows, poor lighting and zero appeal as a meeting room. Tom found in France a very large oak door which was too tall and too wide for anything. Little by little a vision of an old explorer sitting in his study thinking of his next adventure came to mind. As they say the rest is history.
Taylor:
Describe Desklodge in 3 words?
We need a zoo!
How do you like to spend your free time?
I love mountain biking and air soft at the moment. I also love watching my kids play sport to a higher level than I ever achieved.
What is the most challenging project that you've worked on for DeskLodge and why?
The hobbit hole door and the 70's caravan took a bit of head scratching but both were freat fun to build!
What is your favourite DeskLodge zone?
There is too many to list as I've had fun building them all. I do love the Explorers room at DLH.
Brad:
Describe Desklodge in 3 words?
Fun & amazing staff
How do you like to spend your free time?
My hobbies include cycling and paddle boarding and I love spending time on any beach - especially Cornwall beaches.
What is the most challenging project that you've worked on for DeskLodge and why?
The most challenging project so far would definitely be installing the electrics at 1 Castle Park.
What is your favourite Desklodge zone?
It's hard to choose a favourite zone, as they are all so great. I do love the Hobbit Hole and the Festival zone as they are so unique and fun.
We’re very lucky to have a team of builders who understand the DeskLodge vision and work super hard to bring it to life. In fact, they often provide the inspiration for the theming and décor that sets us apart from the rest, and that the members just want to take a snap of.
Three cheers for the DeskLodge builders!
