Meet Matt, DeskLodge House resident and Partner Sales Manager at Indigo Careers, who help students with their Careers paths for uni, work experience and beyond. Matt’s a fun character who likes beer gardens, Netflix and chill and saving the city from evil as a super-hero!
What does Indigo Careers do?
Indigo is a sparky and disruptive little ed-tech start-up based in Bristol, born of decades of expertise from the Trotman Publishing stable. We’re passionate about careers education and are developing ground-breaking new digital solutions to support this wildly under-supported, and hugely important, phase of a student's educational life. We fully understand that not every student knows what they want to be “when they grow up”. Even those that do know will still need some help and guidance along the way. It really can be a minefield of almost infinite career pathways, courses and university choices. This is why Indigo has been designed… to make this process as supported as possible. Enabling careers leaders to deliver the most engaging lessons, with the best possible resources at a crucial juncture in a student’s school life.
How long have you been coming to Desklodge?
Two months… to be exact. Feels like longer if I’m honest.
What is your favourite thing about your job?
My colleagues! I honestly don’t think I’ve ever worked with a better bunch of human beings. It may sound cliché, but we really are like one big happy family here at Indigo. As the saying goes… there may be two I’s in Indigo but there aren't two I’s in Team. We all come together and work tirelessly to ensure that all of our individual/collective goals get achieved. Our passion is to improve the standard of UK careers education and ensure that it is available to the majority not the minority.
What is your favourite thing about DeskLodge?
Seeing the Desklodge team every morning? The Sandwii Man? The culture and overall vibe of the place?
It really is a wonderful place to work with cool and funky breakout spaces that really get your creative juices flowing. Where else can you spend the morning in Hobbiton… the afternoon in a NASA Space Control Centre and an evening in an Air-Raid Shelter?
What do you do in your spare time?
I live a bit of a double life to be honest. By day I work within Careers Education… at night I spend my time hanging out with my loyal butler turned guardian in the ancient network of caves beneath my family’s estate. When I’m not there, you can find me shedding all pretence, donning my cape and pointed cowl and taking to the shadowy streets, skies and rooftops of Bristol fighting crime and eliminating all things evil. I am not Batman… I’m Mattman.
But no, in all seriousness, I tend to spend my spare time chilling with either my girlfriend or my mates, visiting new places that we’ve never been to before. Beer gardens in the summer… Netflix and Chill in the winter.
Who is your biggest celebrity crush?
Oooooohhhh this is a tough one… If I had to pick two to choose from I’d have to pick either Alisha Lehmann (footballer for West Ham Ladies FC and the Switzerland Womens National Team) or Julianne Hough (World Class Dancer, Singer, Actor, Businesswoman).
