9 Iconic Bristol events not to be missed

From balloons to circus acts, lights shows to laughter, there’s always something going on in bustling Bristol. Take a look at these annual events…

Bristol Light Festival

Although we’ve missed it for this year, keep an eye out for Bristol Light Festival returning early in 2025. The event brings fun and colour to the city centre, and offers local and international artists the chance to show off their creative flair through light installations and experiences. It’s utterly vibrant and wonderfully engaging (and all using a single 40 Watt bulb!). Amazing!

Valley Fest

Nestled in the Chew Valley just south of Bristol you’ll find Valley Fest! This music festival is pretty family friendly, and features big music acts, smaller artists, local food producers and, as you might guess for this neck of the woods, gallons of cider. All this and incredible views across Chew Valley Lake and the rolling Mendip Hills. Bliss!

Bristol International Balloon Fiesta

While we’re not big fans of hot air here at DeskLodge, we thought we’d make an exception just this once for the Bristol International Balloon Fiesta. For four days in August, the skies above Ashton Court become ablaze with dozens and dozens of wonderfully coloured hot air balloons. It’s such an amazing sight. No wonder it attracts around 100,000 visitors every year. Eyes to the skies Bristol!

Bristol Comedy Garden

Fancy watching a bit of stand-up comedy? The Bristol Comedy Garden is the south west’s biggest comedy festival, featuring new and establish acts over a few days in June. This year saw the awesome talents of Harry Hill, Stewart Lee, Sara Pascoe and Josh Widdicombe take the stage. And in between acts you can browse the many street food options.

Circus City

Ok, it’s time to stop clowning around. Circus City is the UK’s biggest festival of contemporary circus, dedicated to sharing the power of collective live performances. It showcases some pretty incredible and creative shows from all over Europe, from aerial acrobatics and risky ropework, to adult satire and children’s interactive play. Visit the website for upcoming performances.

Bristol Harbour Festival

Bristol is famous for its maritime exploits, so it’s no surprise that our harbour plays a big part in our culture. The Bristol Harbour Festival is celebration of music, dance, food and arts. You’ll even get to see one or two incredible boats and ships get in on the action. Oh yes, and it’s all free!

Bristol Walk Fest

If you’re looking for a little fitness to go with your fun, then the Bristol Walk Fest is for you. Taking place every May, you can stroll your way around the area with historical tours, nature walks and street art exploration. It’s a great way of discovering the city at your own pace! And there are even walking sports to try.

Bristol Sounds

Located at the harbourside, Bristol Sounds is one of the top attractions every year. No wonder really… This year they welcomed the musical talents of James Arthur, Busted, Placebo and The Breeders. These are always sell-out events, with big names on the bill. So make sure you get in there fast and book your tickets for next year!

DeskLodge Fest

Saving the best ‘til last, DeskLodge Fest is a great way of seeing the city by bagging yourself a private office up in the dizzy heights of Beacon Tower. Just kidding…

Phew – as you can see, there’s a lot going on. So get your diary and start filling it up with fun events for 2025!
