Ian Goldsmith is a Development & Regenerative Lawyer at Ubley Legal Ltd. This legal eagle loves what he does, and finds that life at DeskLodge helps him so much (especially the coffee). I chose to enter the legal profession after leaving Uni. I had a law degree, so it seemed like an obvious career path! I worked in private practice for many years, but about 12 years ago switched to an in-house role in local government. The reasons for that decision had a lot to do with wanting to work in an environment where I could contribute positively to my community and the lives of the people living in it.
Each day is always so different from the one before it. I am learning on the job all the time. At the stage I have reached in my career, having been practising as a solicitor for over 23 years, that to me is a wonderful surprise - one which I could never have imagined when I first set out on my legal career.
As I am now beginning to look towards an early retirement, my career ambitions have dwindled. I’ll be happy to carry on doing what I’m doing for a few more years. Perhaps take a role that involves some management responsibilities, as I enjoy coaching and mentoring staff.
I’m not a fan of working from home, as I prefer the buzz and chatter of an office. So for me it’s great to be able to come and work in Desklodge House, where there are all the office facilities I need, especially the large monitors and printer, and most importantly, people to interact with! And of course, the fantastic coffee machine is a big draw!
