Here’s a phrase that’s never been in one of our blogs before. This month's DeskLodger of the Month works with developing countries to see whether humanity should block out the sun to fight global warming. (We were stressed deciding whether or not we should switch to peach sunsets on Sweetie Friday!) Intrigued? Read on to meet Andy Parker...
I run a non-profit called the Degrees Initiative and we help developing countries to evaluate whether or not humanity should block out the sun to fight global warming (an idea called geoengineering). My background is in climate policy and I started up Degrees because geoengineering could be very helpful or very harmful to climate-vulnerable countries but historically they have not been part of research and discussions.
That scientists are seriously considering reflecting some sunlight away from the Earth to reduce the worst impacts of climate change.
The plan is for Degrees to work for another 5-10 years and then finish up. But building a non-profit you get used to situations where you only have a few months of funding left and so grand plans are a luxury
I never realised how picky I was until I started trying out coworking places - too noisy, too quiet, too far away, too dark, etc etc. Desklodge is in the Goldilocks zone for everything that matters and I work so much better here than at home.
