It’s oh-so-easy to get stuck in a rut when you work from home. And that can lead to lack of focus, drops in productivity and even work fatigue. The trick is to spot when it’s happening – and then do something about it. We can help! We’ve pinpointed the top 8 signs that you’re experiencing WFHF (working from home fatigue).
SOLUTION – Perhaps your surroundings are just too familiar and uninspiring? Or maybe you miss human interaction? It’s time to shake things up. Try working from a busy coworking space for a day or two a week. Just being around other people is great for topping up your energy and focus. People power!
SOLUTION – Routine, routine, routine. The three Rs. When you work from home it’s hard to keep structure. You might tend to float around, doing a bit of work, popping a wash on, skipping lunch… But the more we try to bring a sense of routine to the day, the easier it will be to treat a day at home in the same way as we treat a day in the office.
SOLUTION – If you feel as though your get-up-and-go has got-up-and-gone, then there’s one thing for it. Exercise! Nothing gets that spring back in your step quite like a work-out in the gym, a little jog around the block or just a brisk 10-minute walk. It’s good for your motivation, health and wellbeing. So drop and give me 20!
SOLUTION – Ok, it’s time to address the elephant in the room. Team catch-ups aren’t quite as effective over Zoom or Teams as they are face-to-face, don’t you agree? So it’s no surprise that sometimes we can see our productivity taking a hit. Output may dip, goals are not achieved, perhaps we’ve the odd deadline that is missed. It’s vital we keep standards up and hold ourselves accountable. Set clear goals for the day and week, and share with colleagues and your boss. The more people who know about it, the more likely you are to stick to them.
SOLUTION – Sounds like you could be forgetting to take a break. You see, in an office there are loads of ways of leaving your desk and clearing your head. There’s Claire who suggests popping out to get a latte. Or John, who wants to know if you fancy nipping down the sandwich shop (classic John). It’s not like that at home so it’s common to lose track of time – and that means your concentration can slip. Set a timer to remind yourself to take a break.
SOLUTION – Again, you’re probably tired. The lines between work time and personal time have no doubt become blurred. It’s important to keep work and life away from each other – they don’t mix well. No more checking emails in bed! Naughty naughty.
SOLUTION – You’re lacking that connection with the rest of your team. Regular catch ups give you direction and goals. You’re probably feeling a little meh or frustrated because the goals you have are unclear, or you’ve been left to your own devices for too long. It’s time for regular face-to-face interaction!
SOLUTION – Lockdown and working from home has left millions of people feeling cut-off and secluded. It’s understandable – humans are social animals. We need contact with other people to thrive. It’s time to get back to being around society again (on your terms, of course). DeskLodge is perfect for easing back into mixing with real-life humans again. It’s friendly, fun and full of energy.
