Virtual Reality Blasts into Basingstoke
Virtual and Augmented Reality (VR/AR) will enable us to see are world in a whole new way. It’s all about creating a believable environment, tricking our senses into thinking something’s real when it isn’t, and then interacting with all that’s going on as though it is. Virtual Reality conjures up thoughts of gaming and 3D cinema, but it’s application is diverse covering uses in medicine, education, the military and flight simulation where computer generated scenarios cleverly simulate the real world. But, delivering this virtual world seamless requires anytime, anywhere connectivity and that’s what the 5G revolution will bring about. Making these exciting technologies part of everyone’s life and not just about gamers!
Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council in collaboration with The University of Surrey 5G Innovation Centre and Desk Lodge would like to invite you to the launch of its Virtual Reality lab. Connected to the state-of-the-art 5G test bed in Basingstoke, it combines the immersive and interactive capabilities of Virtual Reality with the key enabling technology of 5G. This event is organised as part of TechTown, an URBACT project funded by the European Regional Development Fund, which brought together 11 European medium-sized cities. The 5G VR launch will also be the opportunity to celebrate the end of the TechTown project and share some of the plans to continue to support the growth of the digital tech sector in Basingstoke.
