Member Success - Optalysys

Optalysys moved into DeskLodge House at the end of 2023 and they are already having huge success! We spoke to Gajinder Panesar, Chief Architect to find out more about them.

What does Optalysys do?

Optalysys is developing a photonics based computing system that accelerates next-generation Privacy Enhancing Technologies (PET). We will do this by providing a massive acceleration for Fully Homomorphic Encryption (FHE).  FHE enables arbitrary computing on encrypted data. Data is never decrypted, even the hardware working on it is always blind. The underlying cryptography is Post-Quantum resistant and is considered to be the 'holy grail' of Privacy Enhancing Technology

What sort of growth have you had here at DeskLodge?

We opened an office in Bristol to build up both electronics (silicon - RTL) design and software teams to help implement, in a phased approach, the goals we have. The main office in Leeds has the majority of the Photonics and Cryptography expertise. We are currently hiring here in Bristol and Leeds and will look to grow by10-20 people in the coming year.

What are your plans for the rest of 2024?

We are a well-funded start-up and are planning to deliver on the milestones agreed with our investors. In particular, this year, we will have a cloud based evaluation platform for lead customers and start the implementation of our first SoC(Silicon-on-chip) device together with the software to support it.

What’s been the best thing about working from DeskLodge?

Several members of the team in Bristol have been in Desklodge before during various previous lives and it seemed like the obvious place. In fact we didn't look elsewhere when setting up the Optalysys office. It is full of interesting, friendly people and the whole place has a fairly laid-back feel.
