Want to design, develop and pitch the next killer IoT product?
IoT technology has the potential to dramatically change our society delivering previously unattainable increases in productivity, efficiency and scale that will impact all our lives. It also represents an opportunity to drive future economic growth by unlocking new markets and possibilities for ambitious UK businesses. This hack weekend aims to be a first step towards that goal. If you have a passion for IoT technology and business - this is a potentially life changing opportunity to collaborate with world-leading tech companies to realize your idea and take the first step to becoming an IoT start-up.
What’s on offer?
The BIG IoTHack event aims to bring together people from business and technical backgrounds, in an intensive weekend to work on real world challenges and ideas where IoT technology can provide a solution. You’ll develop a prototype product and will receive help to create a business plan and then you’ll pitch to a panel of expert judges. The winning pitches will receive prizes that help get their idea to the next stage. There’s plenty of technology on offer too, with hardware from Pycom, Cloud services from Global Cloud providers and LPWAN Networks and access to the University of Surrey’s 5G test-bed and VR/AR Lab and much more. You’ll have expert mentors on hand to inspire, support and help. Your ideas will quickly become a reality. So if you’re interested in getting an IoT start-up off the ground or, just want to have fun with like-minded people this is a must.
This event offers a potentially life-changing opportunity to collaborate with world leading technology companies to help bring your ideas to life. You’ll have the whole weekend to develop a prototype product and receive help to create a business plan before a demo/pitch session to a panel of expert judges. Pycom will be providing you with hardware sensors and you’ll have free access to the Microsoft Azure Cloud, which will let you ingest, store and analyse your data. You’ll have a complete, end-to-end, software and hardware platform that will enable you to get coding and realise your idea. If it turns out to be viable, the platform can scale to multi-millions of devices, generating multi-billions of messages per day!
You’ll also have access to WiFi and SigFox Networks as well as our VR/AR Lab and the University of Surrey’s 5G test-bed. The Basingstoke Tech Scene wish you a belated welcome to 2018 with a pair of talks focused on Infrastructure. James Belchamber will be taking you on a journey through codifying your infrastructure using Terraform - then Lewis Oaten will be telling you how to scrap it all and containerise everything instead, using Docker and Kubernetes. Both will be talking from bitter and hard-earned experience.
Oh, and of course we'll have the usual pizza/beer/wine/soft drinks/water, hosted in the finally-completed (and awesome) DeskLodge atrium. See you there!
